The 60-60 Guideline: New Considerations for Recommending a Cochlear Implant Evaluation

As hearing healthcare technology and research continue to evolve, so does how we evaluate and treat our patients.

However, as treatment of patients with hearing loss continues to advance, awareness and access surrounding cochlear implants for the general population is still inadequate.

A recently published study provides evidence-based criteria regarding when a patient should be referred for a cochlear implant candidacy evaluation. This study has simplified the criteria and encourages hearing care professionals to use the 60-60 guideline as an indicator of when to begin communicating with patients about a cochlear implant.
